My dear sister-in-law and her husband just celebrated their fifth year together as a married couple and I was so honored to be able to take some shots for them! In our beautiful city, that is Oulu, Finland, you can find many nice spots for engagement, anniversary or even wedding sessions. Oulu has so many nice parks that you are just spoiled with choices. We planned this shoot for some time, my sister-in-law and I, and we soon realized that what we were searching for would be something sunny, warm and dreamy. And we are lucky, since Finnish summer is just that. Since the sun is up till very late here in Northern Finland, we started the session very late in the evening in order to get that warm magic light that fills the air right before the sunset. We went in three different locations, all nearby the city: two parks and a beach.
By the way, let me open a parenthesis here. This shoot made me grow, photographically speaking, very much. True, sunset light is beautiful, but it’s a really challenging one. At that point of the day, lights and shadows have such a big contrast that, even if the subjects would move one centimeter, all the camera settings would have to be changed. That is, because I always shoot manually. Besides that, unlike my cakes, shooting people (this sounds worse than it is!) taking photos of people requires a degree of rapidity that I never stopped to ponder over what it actually requires and that made me appreciate as never before the fact that photos, if shot RAW, can be edited on a later stage. And no, do not misunderstand me, I am not saying that I like to edit photos. I am still this kind of old school photographer that believes that photos should shot as best as possible and edited as little as possible. In this case, however, it just wasn’t possible for me to have few minutes (or even seconds, for that matter) to get all the camera settings just right as I usually do with cakes, so that’s why I sometimes had to use the card “I can put some more light into this shot when I edit it later”.
Here’s the result of the sunset anniversary shoot, hope you enjoy the photography and still a big congratulations to dear Inga & Lauri! ♥
Hope you enjoyed this anniversary session I shot! And I want to take this opportunity to thank you all for your support, dear readers! Without you, all this couldn’t be possible. If you like to get directly into your mail news from the blog, subscribe to our newsletter here.
